MISKOLC ARCHITECTURAL WORKSHOP

curator
Miklós Sulyok

The exhibition presents the Miskolc Architectural Workshop – a group of young architects and their masters working at the Északterv architectural company between 1978 and 1990 – as well as their famous residential building known as the Collective House (1979), along with the designs of the workshop’s members from the above period and from 1990 until today. A selection will also be given of their students’ projects to show how the Workshop’s architectural approach was carried on by subsequent generations. This approach, which used to be called contextualism but is now referred to with the more appropriate term of critical regionalism, had – and still has – the geographical and cultural character of a place and continuity in its focus. Our exhibition displays contemporary designs, buildings and tender projects, while familiarising visitors with the architectural practice of the group through photographs, mock-ups and films.
