Basket project
Location
Pécs
The Basket project was drawn up with the aim of creating modern installations/products from willow withies using contemporary mass forming. Employing a traditional material and technique, an object was co-designed and implemented by the students and teachers of the Architectural Institute of the Engineering and Information Science Faculty of the University of Pécs in the town centre of Szaporca within the framework of the Bőköz Festival, with the active participation of the visitors. The outcome of this experimental project may exert an influence on the region’s agriculture (willow withy production) and nurture Hungary’s cultural heritage (reviving a tradition), while lending help to people to enter the labour market. Moreover, the cooperative aspect of the project may lead to increased social inclusion and tolerance. Exploiting the new opportunity, the art, science and university spheres also participated in the festival and enriched it with their own tools and methodologies.
