The Jetty on Lake Váti

Realization
2016
Location
Kapuvár

The jetty designed for Lake Váti in Kapuvár was constructed at the summer collective building camp organised in 2016 linked to the architecture programme in Győr. Although the lake is located in the centre of the town, by the main road, its position does not clearly defne it as an integral part of the town centre. Something was lacking – an attraction lending it emphasis – to draw attention to this valuable body of water. The winning idea – a wooden ring half jutting out onto the water and with its other half on the shore covertly evoking a stage. This ’jetty’ stands on steel pillars, while fsh plates are used in the jointing of its timber structure. The tie beams placed on them hold the massive radially laid down terrace cladding. The ring is formed by 1,024 timber boards of varying sizes; twenty people worked on it for four days. The construction was followed by landscaping and the planting of new trees, which will provide shade in a few years. The benches placed here are now facing the lake and not the road like they used to.
