Collective building camps in Perbál

Location
Perbál

The Children’s Home of the Live On Association can be found in Perbál, near Budapest. It was organised by a community of parents who had been looking for an alternative solution for their disabled children. The designers of the building, Péter Janesch and Tamás Karácsony, participated in the process from its conception. A unique aspect of the institution is that the children live here in small groups, helping each other in daily challenges. Depending on the seriousness of their disabilities, the children have the opportunity to engage with the local residents. The closeness of nature has a benefcial effect as the children with less severe disabilities can do meaningful agricultural work. The organisers contacted Balázs Kemes with the idea of a collective building camp after they saw the results of the camp organised in Valkonya in 2008. Students of architecture visit the home on a yearly basis to help with more demanding renovation works.
