The conversion of this house built in the 1970s was motivated by the need for energy efciency and the intensive use of renewable energy on the one hand, and a change in use on the other. The whole building underwent a modelled energy analysis, with the help of simulations, which was harmonised with functional needs, to arrive at the spatial and structural confguration shown in the design. This all took place effectively within the existing cubature, with the only change to the external silhouette being the alteration of the roof. As a result of this, the south-facing roof follows the path of the sun. During the conversion the designers endeavoured to use natural materials such as cellulose-based thermal insulation or wooden exterior cladding.
