House in Szentendre

Architect
GÁBOR BÁRTFAI-SZABÓ
Year of inauguration
2014
Location
Szentendre

The house was built in the Izbég district of the town, on one of the last undeveloped plots overlooking Bükkös Brook. Like the brick and stone retaining walls of the surrounding hilly area, this unrendered brick building also leans into the hillside, carving out a space for itself and its occupants. The house blends low-tech materials (thick, cellulose insulation) with high-tech mechanical systems (heat pump, heat-recovery ventilation, passive-home freplace). The simple exterior conceals a traversable bedroom block, extended entrance porch and a high-ceilinged open-plan kitchen. The building won the Pest County Award for Architectural Excellence in 2014.
