The 100-unit passive apartment building is the frst large-scale building in Hungary to be classifed as a passive house. This energy-efcient technology employs a thermally-insulated, compact passive shell, solar gain in winter and heat protection in summer, air-tightness and ventilation, with the use of heat exchangers and geothermic energy. The residential blocks, containing apartments with an average area of 50 m2 each, encircle an inner courtyard with a green roof. The novel system of external corridors can be freely confgured, and minimises the cubature of the building inside the “passive shell”.
