The children’s home in Budapest was founded in 1989. The children who live here have a multiple disadvantaged status: they are blind or partially sighted, physically handicapped and mentally retarded, and most of them are orphans. The A4 Studio architecture office planned a home for the over-18s, connecting it to the already existing buildings with a bridge. The communal areas, workshop rooms and a dining hall are on the frst two levels of the fve-storey block, while the rooms for the residents are on the top three floors. The architects wanted to design a simple and safe building that would be easy to use and help the children in their everyday lives. All the corridors have natural light to help better orientation.
