Oncological patients do not like their status revealed. The place where they wait can therefore not be transparent, as if ’overlooking a street’. The middle section of this building cut in half is the waiting area lit from above and providing the needed privacy. The interior design and the whole building’s architecture differs from what is usually communicated to patients. Instead of the flowery, cosy, doily atmosphere, this environment conveys reality and the potential solutions of 21st-century science. The windowless truth of the bunkers surrounded by one-metre-wide concrete walls inspired the external appearance of the building too.
