The main goals of the reconstruction project were to preserve the tower’s original character, conserve its existing structures and create functions that would attract visitors, some of which formed part of the water tower prior to 1945, such as the bistro and café occupying the terraces on the ground and the frst floors. A new addition was the exhibition space at the reception level and the open-air events venue, which was built by digging out a slice from the mound surrounding the tower. The new, lower level of the building now houses a reception and exhibition area with skylights and glass walls, while visitors can enter a stepped courtyard with a ‘mini’ auditorium from Pallagi Road.
