Füzér Fortress was one of the first stone fortresses built by a private landowner. It was probably constructed in the early-13th century, and during the course of history it was owned by several aristocratic families. Its most valuable building is the late Gothic chapel, which was built at the end of the 15th century. The fortress is known for its picturesqueness and also for the fact that in certain periods the Holy Crown of Hungary was kept here. Before the project the Upper Castle was in ruins and the remains of the walls of the Lower Castle had also almost completely disappeared under the drift created by the weather and accumulated here over many centuries. The reconstruction works of the Lower and the Upper castles began in 2013 and 2014, respectively. The Lower Castle was reconstructed after the plans of György Skardelli and Bálint Kelemen, while the Citadel was developed after the plans of Hadas Studio, and the Sziklagyep trail after the plans of György Radványi.
