Renovation of the Wenckheim-Almásy Mansion

Architect
LÁSZLÓ FÖLDES , CSABA BALOGH
Year of inauguration
2016
Location
Gyula

The ‘proto-mansion’ built on the site of the palisade castle in Gyula was eventually joined up with the “Turkish Tower” serving as the city gate, and evolved into generously proportioned, symmetrically composed stately home. In the 20th century, after nationalisation its condition deteriorated. It sank and cracked, and its roof leaked. During the reconstruction the subsidence was halted, the roof structure refurbished and the ornamental paintwork restored. In the rooms, an interactive exhibition was created showing what life was like in a mansion on the Hungarian Plain for everyone from the servants to the aristocrats.
