Saint Martin of Tours Parish Church

Built in 1986, the church was the last building to be designed by István Szabó. The church had since fallen into disrepair, and its surroundings had undergone a transformation as the area ceased to be a working class district, with the factories replaced by office buildings. The new construction carried out as part of the renovation is concentrated in a two-metre block with an exceptionally complex spatial structure. This restored the crystalline monumentality that had been lost among the new office blocks surrounding the church. The interior was also remodelled: the altar was completed, a new chapel created, and a suspended ceiling installed that evokes the roof structure seen in designs, but never implemented in its original form.
