Békéscsaba railway station has two passenger service buildings: the old one was built in the 1870s in the Romantic style, while the new one constructed in 1933 has a NeoBaroque design. The architects were commissioned to restore the monument buildings to their original state based on the available documents and analogies. The old building contains the operational and the new building the passenger trafc functions; an underpass was built under the vaulted hall of the new building and platform roofs in front of it. Preserving the railway station’s valuable monument features, the Romantic old building was expanded with educational and office functions that satisfy modern requirements of convenience and comfort.
