Felsőtárkány, a mining village populated since the 13thcentury, has a long tradition in timber processing. The settlement has a population of 3,500 and a high unemployment rate, while many of its inhabitants are capable of work. The Bükk Forestry, responsible for the management of the Bükk National Park’s flora, operates here. A balanced composition of waste timber is continuously being generated here and this biomass serves as the raw material for wood pellet manufacturing. The material used in the structure of the building is locally produced glued plywood, which is low-polluting and has an ecologically benefcial lifecycle. The objective of the project was to keep the component parts of the structure and its materials as part of the natural cycle during the plant’s operation and even after it reaches the end of its lifespan.
