The project selected the former Hungarian Holy Land church in Budapest’s Hűvösvölgy district as the location for the Csontváry museum. The construction works took place between 1940 and 1949 based on the designs of Farkas Molnár; the project was fnanced by the Franciscan order. The building was not completed, however, and has been standing as a torso ever since. The Holy Land played a key role in Csontváry’s works, which is why the selected location, i.e. the interiors of the church, would be a ftting home for his oeuvre; moreover, the half-completed monument building would also be given a function it deserves.
