The Lechner Knowledge Centre issued an invitation for concepts upon the call of the Prime Minister’s Office with the aim of fnding the best answers for the utilisation as well as the functional and conceptual renewal of Szent György Square and Dísz Square in the Buda Castle district of Budapest. While the designers were granted ample creative freedom, an important criterion was to develop a sustainable urban development and architectural concept that can be later integrated into the long-term development of the Buda Castle area. Other requirements included the preservation and creation of already existing values, harmonisation with the urban fabric as well as functionality, the overall appearance and energy efciency.
