South Gate – Budapest Student Neighbourhood Development Programme, international design competition

The Centre of Key Government Investments announced a restricted tender for the masterplan for a student neighbourhood necessitated by the development and complex urban revitalisation of South Pest and North Csepel. The tender called on the invited architects to design a sustainable urban development project that will result in the development of accommodation for ca 12 thousand students through the construction of a ’student town’ to be implemented in several stages, while serving as a catalyst for the area’s urban development in general. The masterplan creates new opportunities for the brownfeld site through the development of currently non-existent functions. The sports facilities to be built are envisioned to support both professional and recreational sports in Hungary and to provide venues for large-scale sport events.
