New Transport Museum invitation-only international design competition

The design competition announced by the Transport Museum sought architectural designs for the new museum building, as the institution moves to the site of the former Northern Locomotive Repair Depot. The building complex will house some 10 000 square metres of state-of-the-art exhibition space and almost the same area again of storage space with visitor access, as well as a specialist library, documentation centre and technical restorers’ knowledge base. The winning design creates complex exhibition areas and high quality spaces that provide an exciting counterpoint to the site’s industrial heritage.
