The international architectural competition inviting projects for the design of the new cultural public institutions to be built in Budapest’s City Park was issued in 2014 and the winning projects for the New National Gallery and the Hungarian House of Music are soon to be implemented. The New National gallery will be a venue for the presentation of fne art from the 19th century until today. The world class building was designed by the Pritzker Prize laureate Japanese SANAA architect office, their Hungarian partner being Bánáti and Hartvig Architects. Providing the public with music education workshops, concerts and exhibitions, the Hungarian House of Music is envisioned as a genuine communal space and a key meeting point for the Hungarian music scene. The almost completely translucent, environmentally friendly building in which it will be housed was designed by Sou Fujimoto, a Japanese star architect, and is aimed at creating a harmonious transition between the natural and the built environment.
