The aims of renovating this building of unique historical importance were twofold: to reconstruct a building that was mostly baroque but had substantial mediaeval parts and preserved the traces of numerous construction periods, and to revitalise it in line with today’s needs. The courtyards received a glass covering with a single, integrated structure. This has created the much-needed spaces suitable for hosting events and functioning as an assembly hall. The three-hundred-yearold roof structure was severely damaged in the Second World War, and its reconstruction is based on a radical juxtaposition of the old and new parts.
