Banquet Hall

Kassa (Košice) was once an important military base for Hungary. In the monarchy era there were several garrisons in today’s city centre, and after the collapse of communism in 1989 these came under the ownership of the town and the county. The Bačík Street barracks building came under private ownership. When the buildings were auctioned off, the monument protection authorities authorised their demolition (because, as part of a military installation, they were not listed as protected monuments). The architects, however, convinced the investor to create a distinctive banquet hall in the former military canteen.
