Nagygéc, once with a population of 700, is one of the fve villages in Szatmár wedged in-between the Trianon border and the dike built against flooding. After the devastating flood of the River Szamos in 1970, a ban was imposed on construction in the entire area of the village and then its autonomy was terminated. Today Nagygéc only has one permanent inhabitant. The ensemble of the Church of Persistency is made up of the renovated Árpád-era church, the viewing tower, the House of Persistency and the visitor centre. The underlying concept of the reconstruction project was persistency, which means that the ratio between the number of births and death in the nation would be positive.
