The builders of old valued tradition and heritage, and tended to follow the historical styles. Contemporary architecture, on the other hand, strives for simplicity, rational, clean-lined interior spaces and forms. The evangelical chapel in Budapest’s Pestszentlőrinc district also foregoes an ostentatious, exotic form and unnecessary ornamentation in favour of simple architectural expression of its liturgical function. Externally, with its clean-lines and homogenous façade it remains downto-earth yet reaches for the heavens. The forces reflected in its design are captivating, giving a sense of both the power of prayer and the transcendent experience of community in our day-to-day lives.
