A research centre was established in Szeged to investigate the fundamental questions of physics in the 21st century, the elemental interactions between light and matter. The architectural character of the building complex is based on contrasts and the relationships between the various functions. The elongated form, like an array of lenses, lets light through in a way that mirrors the technology. Arriving via the Nobel Prize Winners’ Promenade, the visitor is greeted by an air, high-tech glasshouse, containing the mass if an iconic “brain” symbolising the knowledge centre. The architects have designed a home and space for theoretical work, research and the technologies of the future.
