The new Metro station vastly improved the image of the previously badly reputed Rákóczi Square. Thanks to the project, the station is now linked to the market hall and its valuable trees are preserved. In order to save the old and rare trees, mining technology was used at a certain stage of the project. Two superstructures were built: one for the escalators and the other for the lifts and the stairwell. The two sections of the reinforced concrete console structure are positioned back to back and incline towards the centre at 20 and 30 degrees, respectively, while the pool flanked by the two masses of the building lends unity to the structure. The designers successfully got rid of the road section that once ran before the market hall and replaced it with a multifunctional, paved urban space.
