Reconstruction of the Castle District

The beauty of Sopron’s Castle District lies in its constantly changing cross-sections and spatial relationships covering a distance of almost half a kilometre. The design established a mesh of structural spatial elements (green spaces, paved areas, street furniture, etc.) arranged like notes on the ledger lines of a musical stave. And just like notes annotated on sheet music, here these elements are what give the concept its cohesion, while at the same time adapting to the street-like or square-like character of each respective part. The system is essentially functional, but also gives the renovated spatial structure an identity.
