The market hall in Teleki Square looks back on one of the greatest traditions in Budapest. It was frst a marketplace for livestock and mixed wares and then a market for second hand articles. The building constructed in the 1980s had become generally dilapidated by the 2000s. The main goal of the reconstruction project was to retain the traditional market functions, while placing them into a modern environment. The basic element of the concept was provided by the new roof with a surface area of 3,900 sqm. The building is in close dialogue with the surrounding streets and the new park. Its facades are simultaneously closed and open, pulling in customers during the day, while in the evening the new paving uninterruptedly runs around the entire building.
